CMA Announces Songwriter of the Year Nominations

Technically the nominations are for Song of the Year, but we prefer Songwriters of the Year because it’s the writers who make the songs possible. The nominations are:

“A Little More Country Than That” — Writers: Rory Lee Feek, Don Poythress, Wynn Varble
“Need You Now” — Writers: Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott, Josh Kear
“The House That Built Me” — Writers: Tom Douglas, Allen Shamblin
“Toes” — Writers: Zac Brown, Wyatt Durrette, John Driskell Hopkins, Shawn Mullins
“White Liar” — Writers: Miranda Lambert, Natalie Hemby

Not long ago we wrote about “The House That Built Me” being all the rage in Nashville. The fact that it’s liked so on Music Row gives it a great chance of coming out on top.

We also must give special mention to Don Poythress, one of the writers on “A Little More Country Than That,” because on his way up he worked on demos for ParamountSong, both as a vocalist and a co-writer.

This year’s 44th Annual CMA Awards show named as “Country Music’s Biggest Night” will be broadcast live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Wednesday,  Nov. 10 (8:00-11:00 PM ET) on ABC.
