Jimmy Dean, Ferlin Husky, Billy Sherrill, Don Williams Elected to Country Music Hall of Fame

Jimmy Dean, Ferlin Husky, Billy Sherrill and Don Williams will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame during a formal ceremony later this year. The prestigious announcement was made Tuesday morning (Feb. 23) by the Country Music Association.

Dean wrote and recorded his signature song, “Big Bad John,” in Nashville. The song reached No. 1 on Billboard’s pop and country charts and earned him a Grammy.

Husky is best known for his dramatic performance of “Gone” (which spent 10 weeks at No. 1 in 1957) and the inspirational “Wings of a Dove” (which spent 10 weeks at No. 1 in 1960).

Sherrill hit his stride as songwriter and producer of such classic songs as Charlie Rich’s “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” and Tammy Wynette’s “Stand by Your Man.”

Williams, known as a singer-songwriter par excellence, won the CMA Award for male vocalist and released one of his most enduring hits, “Tulsa Time,” in 1978. In all, he charted 17 number ones.
