New Hank Williams Songs? Really! Lyrics From His Notebooks To Be In New Album

Wow! It’s hard to imagine a new Hank Williams Album so many years after he physically left this earth. But it’s coming, with an all-star cast of artists and co-writers who have set his long-stored lyrics to music. Here’s CMT’s take on it:

A new album inspired by lyrics contained in Hank Williams’ notebooks, which held many of his previously unheard compositions, will be released on Oct. 4. Alan Jackson, Bob Dylan and Norah Jones are among the 13 superstars who have set Williams’ lyrics to music for the album. The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams will be released by Egyptian Records Dylan’s label imprint, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s CMF Records and Columbia Records.

Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson Among Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Nominees

Fresh from his Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in New York City, Garth Brooks is nominated for another prestigious honor for his tunesmith talents. The Shameless singer, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 16 by Billy Joel, is also nominated for inclusion in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He joins several other wordsmiths, including Alan Jackson, Amy Grant, Larry Gatlin, John Bettis, Gretchen Peters, Allen Shamblin and the late Townes van Zandt, in being included in this years list of nominees.

ASCAP Awards Held in Nashville Last Night

ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) hosted its 48th annual Country Music Awards on Tuesday evening (09/15/10) at the War Memorial Auditorium in downtown Nashville.

The writers of country music’s most performed songs of the period between April 2009 and March 2010 were honored before an audience of many of Nashville’s most distinguished songwriters, top country stars and music industry leaders. Special tribute was paid to Alan Jackson, who was honored with the ASCAP Founders Award.

Alan Jackson earns ASCAP’s Founders Award

ASCAP will honor country star Alan Jackson with its Founders Award at the 48th annual ASCAP Country Music Awards on September 14.

A statement from the performing rights organization described the award as “among the most important honors that ASCAP gives to songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators.”

Past winners include Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Smokey Robinson, Emmylou Harris, James Taylor and Jackson Browne.
