Nashville loft apartments will offer affordable homes for working songwriters

Nashville has long been a place for songwriters and musicians to try to get famous and sometimes leave town broke. That’s why Tim DuBois, the vice president and managing executive of ASCAP Nashville, thought it would be a good idea for the city to provide affordable apartments where working artists can collaborate and live cheaply. ASCAP Awards Held in Nashville Last Night

ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) hosted its 48th annual Country Music Awards on Tuesday evening (09/15/10) at the War Memorial Auditorium in downtown Nashville.

The writers of country music’s most performed songs of the period between April 2009 and March 2010 were honored before an audience of many of Nashville’s most distinguished songwriters, top country stars and music industry leaders. Special tribute was paid to Alan Jackson, who was honored with the ASCAP Founders Award.

Alan Jackson earns ASCAP’s Founders Award

ASCAP will honor country star Alan Jackson with its Founders Award at the 48th annual ASCAP Country Music Awards on September 14.

A statement from the performing rights organization described the award as “among the most important honors that ASCAP gives to songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators.”

Past winners include Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Smokey Robinson, Emmylou Harris, James Taylor and Jackson Browne.
