Billy Joel Welcomes Garth Brooks into Songwriters Hall of Fame

Garth Brooks, who penned several of his own biggest hits, including “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” “The River” and “She’s Every Woman,” is being officially honored for his songwriting contributions. The Oklahoma native will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York City on June 16, with good friend Billy Joel doing the official honors.

Alan Jackson earns ASCAP’s Founders Award

ASCAP will honor country star Alan Jackson with its Founders Award at the 48th annual ASCAP Country Music Awards on September 14.

A statement from the performing rights organization described the award as “among the most important honors that ASCAP gives to songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators.”

Past winners include Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Smokey Robinson, Emmylou Harris, James Taylor and Jackson Browne.
