Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson Among Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Nominees

Fresh from his Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in New York City, Garth Brooks is nominated for another prestigious honor for his tunesmith talents. The Shameless singer, who was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 16 by Billy Joel, is also nominated for inclusion in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He joins several other wordsmiths, including Alan Jackson, Amy Grant, Larry Gatlin, John Bettis, Gretchen Peters, Allen Shamblin and the late Townes van Zandt, in being included in this years list of nominees.

Billy Joel Welcomes Garth Brooks into Songwriters Hall of Fame

Garth Brooks, who penned several of his own biggest hits, including “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” “The River” and “She’s Every Woman,” is being officially honored for his songwriting contributions. The Oklahoma native will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York City on June 16, with good friend Billy Joel doing the official honors.

The Grammy Awards’ big fallout continues to be that Lady Antebellum — and by extension, country music — now become the elephant in music’s living room, just as Taylor Swift and, before her, Garth Brooks were in recent years.
It’s not that Nashville is being unduly rewarded because of its power, as my friend Jim Farber suggested in his New York Daily News column…

Songwriter Shawn Camp Comes Back With an Album of His Own

A lot of album projects get shelved in Nashville, but one rarely has a comeback like Shawn Camp’s 1994 Warner Bros. project.
Shawn Camp is a Nashville songwriter whos had more success than most. He’s released five albums of his own, and country music stars such as Garth Brooks, Josh Turner and George Strait have turned his songs into Top 10 hits. Sixteen years ago, Camp had his own shot at country music stardom, but his second album was shelved — until now.

He is behind hits and cuts for Rascal Flatts, Garth Brooks, Dixie Chicks, Brooks & Dunn, Tim McGraw, Wynonna Judd, Sara Evans, Alabama, Lee Ann Womack and more. His co-write “Bless the Broken Road” Rascal Flatts won the 2006 Grammy for Best Country Song.
