ACM Honors Keith Urban Among Pioneers, Pickers and Proselytizers

CMT says the compartmentalization that usually afflicts country music was nowhere in evidence Monday night Sept. 20 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium as the Academy of Country Music bestowed honors on significant figures in all phases and eras of the business.
The event was as ecumenical as a Unitarian cocktail party, and if a ceremony with spotlights and an audience can be called cozy, this one was surely that.
Mel Tillis and the late Marty Robbins were honored individually with the Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award for their years of service in the development of country music.

Kenny Chesney continues to top Forbes’ list of Country Music’s 10 Top Earning Artists in 2010. Also ranking #1 last year, he pulled in an estimate earnings of $50 million from 2009-2010. The stars came out in a big way, as did a number of companies and the American people when GAC presented Music City Keep On Playin’ — A Benefit For Flood Relief.

Aaron Kelly sees country road leading from `Idol’

Aaron Kelly says he’s ready to put the pressures of “American Idol” behind him and focus on a country singing-songwriting career.Kelly, who was eliminated from the Fox contest Wednesday, told a teleconference Thursday that he stayed true to himself but felt he gained in confidence and charisma.
The 17-year-old from Sonestown, Pa., said he sees country music as a good fit for him and admires Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban.
