John Hiatt was in the fifth grade when he wrote his first song. The tune, “Beth Ann,” was about one of his female classmates.”She was a little more developed than the other girls, shall we say, and the fellas took notice,” he said.And of course, he and his band, the Four Fifths, performed it the next year at a class sock-hop at his Indianapolis school.
