Most songwriters, even successful ones, toil alone or with a single collaborator. To call them unsung would be oxymoronic, but with a few exceptions they remain unknown to the lovers of their music. You think Barry Manilow wrote “I Write The Songs”? Think again: that tune was penned by former Beach Boy Bruce Johnston.

Alan Jackson earns ASCAP’s Founders Award

ASCAP will honor country star Alan Jackson with its Founders Award at the 48th annual ASCAP Country Music Awards on September 14.
A statement from the performing rights organization described the award as “among the most important honors that ASCAP gives to songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators.”
Past winners include Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Smokey Robinson, Emmylou Harris, James Taylor and Jackson Browne.
