Country Music Continues to Shame Regular Music Industry

Had you assumed that country-music acts still managed to sell albums because their targeted demographics hadn’t yet fully embraced the Internet? Well, how do you explain this: While the rest of the live music industry is slumping in 2010, country-music concerts are selling and selling. According to a new report, big names like Brad Paisely, Taylor Swift, and Jason Aldean continue to see robust sales, thanks in part to relatively low ticket prices. Says Clarence Spalding, who manages Aldean and Brooks & Dunn: “There’s not a single country artist out there that’s not doing well.” Thanks for rubbing it in, Clarence Spalding! [Billboard]

BMI 2010 Awards: John Fogerty, Taylor Swift, RedOne honored at annual songwriters ceremony | Pop & Hiss | Los Angeles Times

Taylor Swift and John Fogerty were obviously in good company as they accepted awards at the 58th Annual BMI Pop Awards on Tuesday night.

“I just think it’s amazing,” Swift said shortly after her arrival, “to see something go from just a glimmer of an idea as I was sitting on the floor in my bedroom and comparing myself to Romeo and Juliet because my dad didn’t like a guy I wanted to date.

I ran to my room, slammed the door and then started writing this song, and now I’m here tonight, getting to wear a sparkly dress.” As she told the audience upon collecting her award, “I’m not much given to fits of temper, but that was one of the few actual tantrums I threw…. So thank you for rewarding that behavior.”

As the floodwaters rose Buddy Messer ran around his wax museum removing the heads of America’s country music greats.

By the time the water was knee-deep Mr Messer had decapitated 70 stars including Willie Nelson, Taylor Swift, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Roy Acuff and Dolly Parton. He put their heads on a shelf to survive the deluge, leaving their bodies to soak in their rhinestone-studded costumes.
